Abstract: Government responses to the COVID-19 pandemic generated a new wave of social inequalities for communities around the world living in inequitable circumstances. Confinements and health measures overlooked housing conditions, transitions to virtual schooling, ignoring households and families without the technological infrastructures and skills to access education, as well as the availability of an economic remnant overlooked informal employment. The experiences of various communities around the world, from racialized/ethnic communities, homeless, migrant, elderly to youth populations, were not reflected in the knowledge that guided government responses; in fact, their experiences were unintentionally silenced. As a result, it was necessary to build partnerships with communities living in vulnerable conditions and bearing the brunt of the pandemic to ensure that their voices were included in practical public health policies.
