This report presents the findings of the study “Borders as a Factor Shaping Gender-Based Violence Experienced by Migrant Women Arriving on the Andalusian Coast,” carried out by Federación Andalucía Acoge in collaboration with the Community Research and Action Center of the University of Seville (CESPYD), and funded by the Regional Ministry of Social Inclusion, Youth, Families and Equality of the Government of Andalusia.

The study examines how borders—understood broadly as geographic, administrative, social, and symbolic boundaries—influence the gender-based violence experienced by migrant women arriving in Andalusia by sea. It also explores the impacts of these forms of violence, the strategies of resistance developed by the women, and the institutional responses encountered throughout their migratory journeys.

This qualitative research, conducted between January and December 2025, combined in-depth interviews with participatory arts-based methods, particularly body mapping. The study draws on the experiences of 14 migrant women from various African countries who arrived in different Andalusian provinces.
