CESPYD at the 14th ISCHP Conference: Research on Migrant Youth and Mental Health
From July 1st to 4th, 2025, the 14th Conference of the International Society for Critical Health Psychology (ISCHP) was held at the University of Galway (Ireland). This event is a key international space for academic exchange from critical and transformative perspectives in health psychology.
Within this context, Andrés Ruiz-Sánchez, PhD student affiliated with CESPYD (Community Research and Action Center at the University of Seville), participated in the poster session, presenting his work entitled:
“Nicaraguan Migrant Youth in Costa Rica: A Human Rights-Based Approach to Mental Health in Border Areas.”
The research focuses on the mental health of Nicaraguan migrant youth living in border regions of Costa Rica, analyzing their experiences through a human rights lens and highlighting the structural factors that shape their well-being.
This study aligns with one of CESPYD’s core research lines, centered on mental health in migration and border contexts, and reaffirms the group’s commitment to producing knowledge that promotes equity and social justice.
Andrés is currently developing his doctoral dissertation under the supervision of Dr. Virginia Paloma. His affiliation with CESPYD is supported by a scholarship funded by the University of Costa Rica, strengthening collaborative ties between Latin America and Europe in the field of community psychology.
