Abstract: The aim of this paper is to analyse the relationship between perceived discrimination, identity and life satisfaction in Senegalese nationals, establishing a comparison between those residing in the country of origin and those immigrants in southern Spain. The results show how the Senegalese immigrant population in Andalusia perceives itself to be more discriminated against than its counterpart resident in the country of origin. As a coping strategy, people who feel more discriminated against tend to identify more with their ethnic and/or religious groups. Thus, the perception of discrimination was shown to be a facilitating factor for the salience of social identities. Without differentiating by place of residence, those who have a greater identification with their religious or spiritual beliefs show greater satisfaction with life. In comparison, the Senegalese population residing in Andalusia shows greater life satisfaction than those residing in Senegal.
